SWITCH Hydrogen Ontario Working Group

SWITCH Members are invited to join the Hydrogen Regional Working Group to peer learn about the new developments in hydrogen technologies and hydrogen policy.

"In a new quarterly series, the SWITCH Hydrogen Ontario Working Group aka S.H.O.W. will host its first meeting on March 26th; subsequent SHOW sessions will take place: Friday, June 25, Friday, September 24th, and Friday, November 26. The intent of SHOW is to create a 90-minute space for SWITCH members to discuss and learn about hydrogen in a peer-to-peer format, similar to sector news updates. We will rely on each other to learn, share trends, and deconstruct technical terms. Any SWITCH member is welcome to participate. Although discussions will reference global trends, we will aim to bring it back to Ontario during the conclusion.

(beginner level)  
  • Welcome to SHOW
  • Introduction to hydrogen and the three colours of hydrogen production: grey, blue, and green.
  • Group discussion on policy from the Hydrogen Strategy for Canada and Ontario Low-Carbon Hydrogen Strategy – Discussion Paper
Friday, June 25, 8:30am to 9:30am - Transportation Applications 
(intermediate to advanced level)  
  • Thematic focus on transportation: hydrogen fuel cells, hydrogen rail, and hydrogen fuel cell electric buses (FCEBs)
  • Discussion on CUTRIC-led “Pan-Canadian Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Demonstration & Integration Trial: Phase I” with Mississauga Transit (MiWay)
Friday, September 24, 8:30am to 9:30am - Hydrogen Startups 
(intermediate / all levels)  
  • The hydrogen revolution will be powered by startups, not politics; in this session, participants will learn about some of the technologies that are being developed by hydrogen startups around the world in areas of: electrolysis, generation, fuel cell and adoption. Please note, due to the volume of startups this session will emphasize the market applications of several startups, but will not be a deep dive into one particular startup's technology. 
  • Group discussion on improving technology adoption in Ontario for startups inventing new hydrogen technologies 
Friday, November 26, 8:30am to 9:30am - Hydrogen Cities & End of Year Wrap Up
(all levels) 
  • Did you know that Toyota is building the world's first programmable city powered by hydrogen? Yes, it's true! Woven City will be constructed at the base of Mt Fuji. Also, South Korea will be constructing 3 hydrogen cities into 2022. 
  • Group discussion on hydrogen cities from around the world, as well as end-of-year wrap up and ideas for SHOW in 2022.
