SWITCH Open Meeting - May 2021

SLC's Sustainability Plan

Brooke Gilmour, Sustainability Manager at St. Lawrence College

SLC has recently approved our Sustainability Plan and is working to complete our Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan.  Learn how SLC plans to achieve climate action goals and meet sustainability targets in spite of COVID.

St. Lawrence College (SLC) is an integral part of the economic life and social fabric of Eastern Ontario, with campuses in Kingston, Brockville, and Cornwall. SLC is committed to cultivating an institutional culture that values, supports, and promotes belonging, equity, human rights, respect, and accountability among faculty, staff, and students. Rooted in our communities, we will be a globally recognized college delivering innovative learning opportunities and preparing career-ready graduates to be leaders in their fields. The College has identified “Belonging” as its fifth core value and mandate as an educational institution. We recognize that sustainability is the integration of the lenses of environmental responsibility, economic viability and social/cultural vibrancy. It is through strong governance that enables SLC to integrate the lenses of economics, social/culture and environment to make optimized decisions positioned in the sweet spot of sustainability.

Brooke has lived in Kingston most of her life, is a SLC Alumni and a long time member of SWITCH.  In 2008 she graduated from the Energy Systems Engineering Technology Program and prior to working at SLC, she was the Executive Director of Red Squirrel Conservation Services, where she worked with homeowners, builders and townships to reduce GHG emission and improve energy efficiency.   As the Tri-Campus Sustainability Manager she works closely with all departments to implement sustainability related advancements in our operations and academics.
