3D PRINTING IN THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR
The construction sector is facing a nearly impossible combination of challenges. Rising demand, increasing labour
and material costs, decreasing availability of skilled labour, and ever more complex processes are making it harder to execute projects resulting in increased costs to consumers and decreasing profitability in the sector. New and innovative technologies and approaches to build processes are needed to address these challenges. 3D construction printing or 3DCP is one of these solutions. By 3D printing structural walls, 3DCP provides unparalleled predictability in scope, schedule and budget, all while delivering long lasting builds with less waste. nidus3D is Canada's foremost 3D printing company responsible for the first in-country residentially permitted 3D printed structure. The presentation will cover an introduction to the technology, a case study of the first build, and an outline of future efficiencies that can be achieved through the 3DCP form.

Ian Arthur is the President and Founder of nidus3D, Canada’s experts in 3D construction printing. Partnering with COBOD, the world’s leading manufacturer of 3D Construction Printers, Ian and nidus3D are addressing key frictions in the building sector to address the housing and affordability crisis in Canada.
Previously, Ian was the Member of Provincial Parliament for the riding of Kingston & the Islands serving in the 44th Legislature from 2018-2022. Prior to his life in politics, Ian was the executive chef at Chez Piggy and helped run one of Kingston’s most historic and celebrated small businesses and restaurants.
Ian grew up in the Sydenham area, studied International Development and Political studies at Trent University, and studied in Ghana while working for the Canadian High Commission. Ian has a Master’s in Public Administration from Queen’s University. Ian is an avid reader, and enjoys camping, and plays hockey in his free time.
