Bob Oliver: The Ontario Hydrogen Foundation Studies. H2GO Canada and the path to a low-carbon energy future.

July 7, 8-10 am

On behalf of H2GO Canada, Bob Oliver will present on the organization’s recent activities, focusing on its forthcoming series of reports: The Ontario Hydrogen Foundation Studies. These reports present the findings of research and analysis aimed at evaluating the potential for hydrogen systems to advance decarbonization within Ontario’s economy. The reports also introduce a new technoeconomic modeling tool that allows scenarios of hydrogen market development in Ontario to be richly scoped, costed and assessed for impacts to employment and greenhouse gas emissions inventories. Estimates for mid-century levels of hydrogen production and use in the province, according to a base case scenario, as well as the associated cumulative capital and operating expenditures will be previewed. The base case scenario considers the adoption of hydrogen in numerous sectors of the economy, including industry, transportation and buildings, as well as through numerous pathways that employ a range of hydrogen production and end-use technologies.

H2GO Canada is a Not-for-Profit organization that was established in 2018 to advance a vision of hydrogen becoming a fully developed, low-carbon energy pathway for heat, power and mobility in Canada, as well as for de-carbonizing industrial production, supported by commercially vibrant supply chains. Its mission is to help make hydrogen systems a practical option for organizations in Canada that are seeking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within their operations. Accordingly, the work of the organization focuses on cultivating conditions for hydrogen markets to develop, grow and thrive.

Bob is an accomplished advocate for low-carbon energy systems, recognized in Canada and the U.S. for helping advance policies that promote the development and adoption of advanced and sustainable vehicle technologies. An author of numerous, seminal reports and educational publications, Bob is also an experienced organization-builder, fundraiser and research project manager. Currently, Bob focuses on the development of hydrogen systems as a pathway to fulfill greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals. He is a founding member of H2GO Canada and is a partner at Change Energy Services, an engineering firm that plans and executes clean fuel transitions for private and public sector corporations.

Bob has served on numerous committees and advisory group, including Ontario’s Hydrogen Strategy Working Group, the Commission for Environmental Cooperation’s advisory group on North American integrated sustainable freight transportation strategy, the Steering Committee of the Canadian Electric Vehicle Technology Roadmap, the Ontario Energy Board Chair’s Advisory Roundtable, the National Advisory Committee on Energy Efficiency, and Metrolinx’s New Mobility Thought Leader Panel.

Bob is a professional engineer and has a bachelor of mechanical engineering degree from Carleton University.
